Prof. Jacques Reisse

Biosketch

Jacques Reisse, active Professor Emeritus of the ULB, holds a PhD in Chemical Sciences from the Université libre de Bruxelles. He was professor of organic and physical chemistry at the Faculty of Applied Sciences (School of Engineering) and at the Faculty of Sciences. He has been visiting professor in several French universities and also in Germany, Switzerland, the United Kingdom, Romania and the United States.

Jacques Reisse is member of the Académie royale de Belgique and Doctor Honoris Causa of the Joseph Fourier University of Grenoble. He chaired the Scientific Council of the "Pôle Scientifique et Technique de Grenoble" as well as several scientific committees of French CNRS laboratories. He has been secretary of the Scientific and Strategic Council of the Collège de France. He is a fellow of the Acoustical Society of America, honorary member of the European Sonochemical Society and holds several Belgian and French distinctions.

Jacques Reisse is the author of more than 150 papers and various chapters of books devoted to stereochemistry, nuclear magnetic resonance, structure of the liquid state, sonochemistry, organic cosmochemistry and chemical evolution. He is curently more focused on the understanding of the origin of Life and the theory of the evolution from a sociological point of view. He recently wrote books on this scientific area: La longue histoire de la matière: une complexité croissante depuis des milliards d'année (PUF, 2006), Charles Darwin et Georges Lemaitre. Une improbable mais passionnante rencontre (co-author with Dominique Lambert, Académie royale de Belgique, 2009), Alfred Russel Wallace, plus darwiniste que Darwin mais politiquement moins correct (Académie royale de Belgique, 2013).
